EUTCC statement on Muharrem Erbey arrest

EUTCC STATEMENT ON MUHARREM ERBEY ARREST
 
 
The EUTCC deplores the arrest of Mr. Muharrem Erbey, the Vice President of the Human Rights Association of Turkey (IHD) and President of the IHD branch office in Diyarbakir, by the Turkish authorities on 24 December 2009. Mr. Erbey in an internationally known human rights advocate who has never been involved in any violence. Indeed his work on behalf of human rights deplores violence and emphasizes peace and reconciliation.
 
The EUTCC appeals to the Turkish authorities to correct this injustice and immediately release Mr. Muharrem Erbey.
